The project
THE NEW BLACK
THE NEW BLACK is an artistic project by Ruediger Glatz. It is built on collaborations with the protagonists of this world and their institutions — media outlets, fashion houses, PR and model agencies. Begun in 2009, and published with VOGUE Germany since 2010 — this website was built on their request in 2014 as their partner site — it is a work in progress — never finished — one artist's long view of an industry that lives in the instant.
The title holds two ideas: the new, the restless engine of fashion, and black, the non-colour of silhouette, contour and character. Every image is black and white.
This is not a blog. It is an archive, a work in progress, growing one portrait at a time.

The photographer
Ruediger Glatz
Ruediger Glatz is an artist and photographer, working mostly in lens-based media, with installations and performance. He considers his work to be conceptual portraiture. He began THE NEW BLACK in 2009 and is in Paris at least twice a year, during the women's ready-to-wear shows, to work on the project. Since 2012 he has photographed the performances of Olivier Saillard, and he works with Tilda Swinton. His images appear in books published by Rizzoli, by his own imprint and by others.
