CHARACTERS

Sutor Mantellassi had hired Anton Magnani some years before as CEO, to revive the old and traditional Italian house of luxury menswear. I had portrayed him before, and he came to a preview dinner at my show CONFRONTATION in Hamburg. That night he mentioned an idea he had, and that I should come to Milan to discuss it.

Some months later, in Italy, we agreed that I would portray twelve international personalities. With my love Anni, I travelled for half a year — to New York, London, Paris twice, Milan and Berlin — to make all the shots.

The work ended up in a print edition, presented during Pitti Immagine Uomo in 2017 at the wonderful Palazzo, accompanied by the book and a book presentation at the fair. At the time, I spent two to three weeks in Hamburg with my printer Wolfgang Soeder of Grauwert and with the framer Christian Peters to finish everything.
